Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Should Cost Engineer with specialized experience in cost modeling , supplier benchmarking , and engineering cost analysis within the nuclear energy sector . The role focuses on Engineering Procurement Systems (EPS) , including auxiliary systems and Balance of Plant (BOP) components used in nuclear power generation. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, cost structures, and regulatory requirements specific to nuclear power plant construction and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain should-cost models for nuclear auxiliary systems and BOP components .
• Analyze manufacturing methods , material costs , and labor costs to produce detailed cost estimates.
• Collaborate with engineering , procurement , and supply chain teams to drive cost optimization strategies.
• Conduct supplier benchmarking , value engineering , and support cost reduction initiatives .
• Support design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturing strategies by engaging closely with design teams.
• Perform market and industry analysis to understand cost drivers , supply chain trends , and supplier capabilities .
• Deliver cost breakdowns, risk assessments, and reports to inform strategic sourcing and procurement decisions .
• Ensure alignment with nuclear industry standards , including ASME , IEEE , NRC regulations , and safety compliance .
• Provide cost insights and technical recommendations during contract negotiations .
• Prepare cost reports and executive presentations with actionable recommendations.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering , Industrial Engineering , or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in cost engineering , procurement analysis , or cost estimation within the nuclear , energy , or heavy manufacturing sectors.
• In-depth understanding of:
• Transformers , switchgear , power distribution systems , motor control centers
• Commodities such as forging , casting , heavy fabrication , and sheet metal
• Experience developing should-cost models for built-to-specification equipment.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes , material selection , and production cost structures .
• Proficiency with Excel , cost estimation tools , and data analysis techniques .
• Strong knowledge of nuclear standards : ASME , IEEE , NRC , and nuclear safety protocols .
• Demonstrated ability to work with suppliers and conduct thorough cost and value analysis .
• Excellent analytical , negotiation , and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation abilities.
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work in cross-functional environments .

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects in the nuclear power sector.
• Familiarity with cost simulation software such as aPriori , Costimator , SEER , or similar tools.
• Professional certifications such as AACE , PMP , Six Sigma , or equivalent.
