Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe and reliable transportation for passengers, ensuring they reach their destinations on time.
  • Utilize standard defensive driving techniques to ensure safety on the road.
  • Assist disabled passengers in entering and exiting the vehicle, operating accessibility lifts as needed.
  • Safely and appropriately secure passengers, including those in wheelchairs, in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the transit vehicle.
  • Proficiently use electronic devices or tablets for route management, scheduling, and communication.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years professional driving and customer service experience. Public transportation experience is preferred. Basic computer or tablet skills required.

Licensing: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required. CDL license preferred but not required for this position.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of the geographical area (Tyler, Texas and Smith County).
  • Proficient in defensive driving techniques, map reading, and following routes.
  • Ability to maintain timely schedules and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical, drug screening, and background check.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with English proficiency (bilingual in Spanish preferred).
  • Professionalism and excellent customer service skills are required.

Working Conditions:

Driving: Daily driving throughout East Texas.

Weather & Noise: Exposure to varying weather conditions (monthly) and noise levels from the vehicle and passengers.

Physical:

  • Sitting for extended periods.
  • Twisting, pulling, pushing when loading clients in wheelchairs and securing them in the vehicle.
  • Bending, kneeling, and squatting to secure clients in the vehicle.
  • Climbing in and out of the transit vehicle multiple times throughout the day.
