Job Summary: As a Gifts Merchandising Buyer, you will be responsible for selecting and purchasing a wide range of products within the gifts category, ensuring they align with our company's brand, market trends, and customer preferences. You will play a key role in inventory management, vendor relations, and product pricing, while maintaining the highest quality standards. This position will help to drive category growth within the existing and new customer base, which includes both retail (brick & mortar stores and ecommerce) and wholesale distribution.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Product Selection & Sourcing:
  • Research, identify, and source new and trending gift products that align with customer demand, market trends, and sales strategy.
  • Source, develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and North American sales teams to ensure products complement seasonal promotions, campaigns, and overall brand vision.
  • Support the development and cost responsibility over a growing marketing spend across multiple channels.
  • Merchandise Planning & Strategy:
  • Analyze sales data and customer feedback to translate demand into supply strategy / execution, and identify opportunities for new product lines or improvements to existing offerings.
  • Create and manage product assortments, ensuring they meet customer needs and enhance the shopping experience.
  • Plan for seasonal gift offerings, ensuring the right products are available at the right time, as well as product development in support of unique marketing campaigns.
  • Pricing & Budgeting:
  • Establish competitive sourcing and category strategies based on market trends, cost structure, margin requirements, and competitor analysis.
  • Manage the buying budget and ensure cost efficiency without compromising product quality.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Oversee inventory levels, ensuring optimal stock levels and minimizing overstocking or stockouts.
  • Monitor product performance and adjust buying strategies accordingly to maintain healthy product turnover rates.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the marketing team to support product launches, campaigns, and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth product delivery, timely restocks, and effective inventory control.
  • Market Trend Awareness:
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, attending trade shows, vendor meetings, and market research to discover new products and innovative ideas.
  • Continuously assess competitor products and merchandising strategies to ensure a competitive edge in the market.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Retail Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in buying, merchandising, or a related role within retail or gifts industry.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
  • Strong understanding of product trends, market analysis, and consumer behavior.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with data, analyze sales performance, and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with inventory management software.
  • Passion for gifts, creativity, and delivering a great customer experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product Knowledge: Familiarity with the company's products and services or industry experience.

Physical Requirements/Demands:

  • Must be able to be stationary (sit or stand) for durations of time
  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • If work is performed in a remote setting (home), must have a designated area for work to maintain focus and professionalism, and a stable internet connection.
  • Must be able to travel (conventions, trade shows, etc.) out of state for up to one week at a time.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages, and other items, and to walk short distances.
