POSITION SUMMARY:

Serves as a member of the CEO's senior leadership team, providing strategic leadership and direction in the areas of Licensed Childcare, Summer Day Camp, Sports, Arts & Humanities and Teen Programs. The VP of YD supervises, develops and implements a full range of programming, services, partnerships, and community outreach to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding service to all members, program participants and partners. This position provides direction, measurement and accountability to Association initiatives within the YMCA Youth Development Framework, member/participant engagement strategies and member/participant retention strategies. The VP of Youth Development also provides advice and counsel to the Branches regarding childcare, camps, sports, arts & humanities and teen programming best practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Direct, implement, promote and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill the YMCA healthy initiatives/objectives.
  • Strong strategic planning skills.
  • Current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws related to childcare.
  • Develop and monitor program/department budgets to meet or exceed fiscal objectives. Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting and analysis.
  • Lead, direct and supervise, creating a TEAM Culture within the Youth Development Framework.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct staff and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Assist with retention and commitment of program and membership participants.
  • Meet and exceed member/participant satisfaction results and deliver high-value experience for members/healthy living program participants.
  • Compile program statistics. Regularly analyze data to ensure it meets quality performance standards.
  • Monitor daily operations to adhere to all health & safety standards and policies. Childcare will be a key area of focus as it relates to state licensing regulations. Focus on risk management.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Frederick County Public School (FCPS), private charter schools, registered homeschool coalitions and other referral networks to enhance awareness of programs.
  • Collaborate to promote Youth Development case for support in annual campaigns, and other association-wide events that promote the Y Youth Development in the community.
  • Prepares and coordinates proposals for grants from government sources and private foundations to support new program initiatives.
  • Provides training in fund raising to staff and volunteers by collaborating with the Financial Development Department. Educates, motivates and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
  • Develops communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support. Work in tandem with marketing & membership teams to coordinate all aspects of work.
  • Represents the association as required by the CEO. Accountability, professionalism, relationship based behavior, and ethical behavior are required at all times.
  • Will be responsible for creating a Branch Impact Board for Camp West Mar and several sub-committees that will support the specific work in the Youth Development department.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of professional management experience with a successful track record of growing programs through increased revenue or participants, and/or new program initiatives.
  • Ability to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Working knowledge of giving and charitable initiatives. Experience managing annual campaign/fundraising tasks.
  • Strong communication, networking and collaboration skills
  • Excellent team builder and team player, ability to work in a self-directed fashion
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills, capable of working effectively with board members, staff members, volunteers, and donors/prospects.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner building strong relations with leaders in a wide variety of organizations in the community
  • Knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
